Family Constellations is a therapeutic approach that explores the deeper, often hidden dynamics within family systems. It was developed by German psychotherapist Bert Hellinger in the 1990s. This method reveals how unresolved family traumas and entanglements can affect our lives, often without our conscious awareness. By bringing these issues to light, Family Constellations aims to restore balance and healing within the family system.
Family Constellations can bring to light hidden family dynamics that may be causing emotional pain, relationship problems, or even physical ailments. By addressing unresolved issues within the family system, individuals often experience improved relationships, greater understanding of self, and healing across generations.
Family Constellations can be done in an individual or group setting. In individual sessions, the seeker selects representatives (figures/objects) to stand in for family members or significant elements in their life. These objects are positioned in space, guided by intuition, and together we observe the dynamics that emerge, offering insights and interventions to help resolve your issue.
Family Constellations originated from the work of Bert Hellinger, who integrated various therapeutic traditions, including psychoanalysis, Gestalt therapy, and systemic family therapy. His approach is also influenced by his time as a missionary in South Africa, where he observed the Zulu people’s emphasis on ancestral connections and community harmony.
Emerging research into epigenetics offers support for Family Constellations. Studies have shown that trauma can cause heritable changes in gene expression, influencing descendants' emotional health and demonstrating how unresolved family trauma impacts later generations. Amazing deep healing: the place within that never was able to move never was clear never had a voice: all was opened up, revealed and spoken with in the healing space Alejandra creates and opens.
