The Link to the Roots: What You Really Left Behind When You Migrated
Your soul is still connected to the energetic field of your land
Honey, let me explain something you may have felt all your life but could never put into words:
**Your roots are not just a poetic metaphor. They are real energetic connections.
When I say this in my family constellation therapy sessions, I see my clients' eyes fill with tears. Because someone is finally validating what they have always known deep down inside.
Rootedness: more than a place, it is your whole identity.
Think for a moment about what it means to be rooted to a place:
When you were rooted, you had:
✨ A clear sense of belonging ("I belong here, this is my place").
✨ Existential security ("I know the rules of this game").
✨ A **seamless identity ("I know who I am").
✨ A natural support network (your aunts, your comadres, your people).
✨ Rituals that ordered your life (fiestas patronales, Sundays with the family, the day of the dead).
An emotional landscape (the smell of rain in your town, the sound of the bells, the taste of water).
Uprooting: what was taken from you when you left.
And now, my love, look what uprooting took from you:
When you migrated, you lost:
💔 Your place in the world ("Where am I really from?")
💔 Your recognized social role ("Back there I was a professional, here I clean houses.")
💔 Your complete language ("Nobody understands your sayings, your jokes, your nuances")
💔 Your emotional landscape (Those smells, colors, sounds that anchored you)
💔 Your tribe (Those who have always known you, those who don't need explanations)
💔 Your visible history (Here nobody knows who you were before)
Migration in systemic terms produces one of the deepest pains a human being can experience, because our identity is built from the territory.
**And this is not weakness. It is biology. It is soul. It is humanity.
The morphogenetic field: the science that explains why you are still connected.
Love, now comes the fascinating part. Rupert Sheldrake, a brilliant British biologist, proposed something revolutionary: the theory of morphogenetic fields. These are invisible fields that connect all members of a system, be it a family, a species, or even an entire culture.
What does this mean for your migrant heart?
It means that there is an invisible field, real and measurable, that connects you to:
🌟 Your family of origin (That's why you know when something happens to your mom even if you haven't spoken in weeks).
🌟 Your native culture (That's why you cry when you hear music from your homeland).
🌟 Your home turf (That's why you dream of walking those streets even if you never go back)
🌟 Your dead ancestors (That's why you feel their presence in important moments)
This explains why:
- You feel your mother's pain thousands of miles away.
- Your dreams constantly take you "back home".
- You never quite feel completely comfortable here
- Your children, born in this country, carry something from "over there" that they can't explain.
The words that will change your perspective
Stephan Hausner, German master facilitator of systemic constellations and author of the powerful book "Even if it Costs Me My Life," has worked with migrants from all over the world. And this is what he discovered:
"When you are separated from your homeland or your family, a part of your soul can stay there. It's not that you 'have to get over it'. It's that you literally left fragments of your being in the place of origin. " * *"It's that you literally left fragments of your being behind.
Love, read this again. **You are not crazy for feeling like you left something behind. YOU LITERALLY DID.
The reality that no one explains to you
That's why:
✅ You feel you left something important behind.
(because you did: fragments of your soul)
✅ Your dreams constantly take you "back ".
(Your soul seeks to recover those fragments in order to be complete).
✅ You never end up feeling "at home " (Because you are energetically torn between two worlds.
(Because you are energetically divided between two worlds.)
✅ Your relationships become complicated.
(It's hard to love fully when you are not complete.)
✅ You get tired for no apparent reason.
(Your energy goes into maintaining that division).
The hope I come to bring to you
But here's the beautiful truth that I've seen over and over again in my practice:
**Family constellations offer a sacred way to reclaim those soul fragments and feel whole again, no matter where you are physically.
You don't need to physically return to your country to heal. You do not need to give up your new life. **You need to integrate both parts of your being into one unified heart.
And that, my dear migrant, is exactly what we do in our family constellation therapy sessions.
