The Invisible Symptoms of Migration Trauma
When your body speaks what your mind is silent
Have you ever wondered why:
- You have chronic back pain that no doctor can explain?
- Your digestive system "rebels" for no medical reason?
- Do you suffer from recurring migraines that come out of nowhere?
- You have unexplained fatigue despite sleep?
- Do your tests come back "normal" but you know something is wrong?
Doctors tell you: *"It's all right. It's nerves. Try antidepressants.
But you know there's more to it.
And you're right.
During my 20+ years working with migrants, I've seen the same pattern repeat itself over and over again:
**Migrant trauma that is not processed emotionally, becomes somatized.
It becomes a symptom.
And today I am going to show you why this happens and, more importantly, how to heal it from the root.

1. WHAT PSYCHOSOMATICS IS AND WHY IT MATTERS FOR MIGRANTS.
"Your body is the map of your untold story ".
The word psychosomatics comes from the Greek:
- Psyche = mind, soul
- Soma = body
**Psychosomatics = the connection between mind and body.
And here is the truth that Western medicine has ignored for decades:
**Your body is not separate from your mind. Nor from your emotions. Nor from your family history.
**Everything is connected.
The revolution of the mind-body medicine.
Gabor Maté, a Hungarian-Canadian physician and expert in trauma and addiction, explains it masterfully:
- "Most chronic diseases have roots in unprocessed emotional stress. The body says what the mouth is silent. " * "The body says what the mouth is silent.
Bessel van der Kolk, Dutch-American psychiatrist, author of "The Body Keeps the Score," adds:
- "Trauma doesn't just live in our memories. It lives in our body. In our posture, in our breathing, in our muscle tension, in our organs. " * "Trauma does not only live in our memories.
And Peter Levine, creator of Somatic Experiencing, discovered:
- *"When a trauma is not completed (not fought, not fled, not processed), survival energy is trapped in the nervous system. And it manifests itself as a physical symptom.
Why migratory trauma is especially somatizing.
The migrant experiences something unique:
Trauma without permission to process it.
They tell you:
- "Be strong "
- Don't complain, you came here to look for opportunities.
- "Others have it worse "
- "Be grateful for what you have " "Be grateful for what you have "
Then swallow the pain.
Save the sadness.
You hold the fear.
**You repress anger.
And where does all that unexpressed emotion go?
**To your body.
Candace Pert, an American neuroscientist and pioneer in psychoneuroimmunology, figured it out:
- "Unprocessed emotions are converted into molecules (neuropeptides) that are stored in tissues and organs. Your body literally 'remembers' the trauma at the cellular level. " * * "Your body literally 'remembers' the trauma at the cellular level.

2. MY TRAINING IN BIODESCODIFICATION: DECIPHERING THE LANGUAGE OF THE BODY.
"Each symptom is a message. I learned to listen to it. "
During my training in Europe, I not only studied transpersonal psychology and family constellations.
I also trained in Biodecoding - the art and science of deciphering the biological message behind every symptom.
What is Biodescodification?
Biodecoding, also known as Biological Decoding, was developed by several pioneers, mainly:
Dr. Ryke Geerd Hamer (German physician) who discovered:
- "Every disease begins with a 'biological shock' - an intense, unexpected emotional event that could not be processed. The brain, trying to help, activates a 'biological survival program' which manifests itself as a symptom. " * *"Every disease begins with a 'biological shock' - an intense and unexpected emotional event that could not be processed.
Claude Sabbah (French psychologist) who systematized:
- "Each organ has a biological function and an emotional meaning. When there is an unresolved emotional conflict related to that function, the organ becomes ill. " * Claude Sabbah (French psychologist) who systematized
Christian Flèche (French psychotherapist) who taught:
- "The symptom is the brain's biological solution to an emotional conflict. It is not the enemy. It is an ally that tries to help us survive. " * "The symptom is the brain's biological solution to an emotional conflict.
The 4 fundamental principles of Biodecoding:** ** The 4 fundamental principles of Biodecoding: ** The 4 fundamental principles of Biodecoding: **
PRINCIPLE 1: Every symptom has a biological meaning*.
There is no disease "by chance".
Every symptom fulfills a survival function (even if it is dysfunctional).
Example:** ** Thyroid problem = urgency conflict
- Thyroid problem** = conflict of urgency ("I don't have time, I must hurry or slow down").
- Digestive problems** = conflict of "not being able to digest" something (situation, person, experience)
- back pain** = conflict of burden ("I am carrying something that is not mine to carry")
**PRINCIPLE 2: Each organ reflects a specific emotional conflict.
Your body is an emotional map:
- Lungs = freedom, fear of dying, territory.
- Heart** = conflicts of territory, family, home
- Liver** = lack, fear of lack
- Kidneys** = liquids, referents, existential fear
- Skin** = separation, contact
- Bones** = deep depreciation
**PRINCIPLE 3: The symptom appears after the conflict has been resolved.
Contrary to what we think, many symptoms do NOT appear during stress.
They appear after, when the conflict is resolved and the body tries to repair.
Dr. Hamer called this the "repair phase.
PRINCIPLE 4: The family tree influences your symptoms.
This is where Biodescodification meets Family Constellations:
You can somatize conflicts that are not yours, but of your family system.
Marc Fréchet (French psychotherapist) explains:
"The family tree is like a hard drive. Each unresolved trauma is recorded. And descendants can 'download' these unconscious programs and manifest them as illness. " * *"The family tree is like a hard drive.
How I integrate Biodescodification in my work:** ** How I integrate Biodescodification in my work: ** How I integrate Biodescodification in my work: **
In my sessions, when a client arrives with a physical symptom, I ask 3 key questions:
- When did the symptom start (we look for the biological shock). 2.
- What was going on in your life at the time? (we identify the emotional conflict).
- Who in your family had something similar? (we trace transgenerational patterns).
And then we use family constellations to:
- See the systemic dynamics behind the symptom.
- Release the emotional conflict
- Reorganize the family system
- Allow the body to finally let go

3. THE 10 MOST COMMON PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS OF MIGRATION TRAUMA.
"These are the messages your body is screaming ".

4. THE BODY MAP OF MIGRATORY PAIN
"Your body is a map. Each zone tells a story. "
In Biodescodification, we learn that each zone of the body reflects a specific aspect of our life:
RIGHT SIDE OF THE BODY:
- Father, authority, masculine
- Work, action, giving
- Future, projects
**LEFT SIDE OF THE BODY
- Mother, affection, feminine
- Family, receiving
- Past, origins
**UPPER SIDE (head, shoulders, arms): ** Thoughts, decisions, decisions
- Thoughts, decisions
- Responsibilities
- Communication
MIDDLE PART (chest, abdomen):** ** Emotions, feelings
- Emotions, feelings
- Identity, dignity
- Processing (emotional digestion)
**BOTTOM PART (hips, legs, feet): ** Movement, forward movement, forward movement.
- Movement, advancement
- Security, rootedness
- Relationship with mother/earth
The specific map of migratory trauma:** **## The specific map of migratory trauma:
SHOULDER PAIN:
→ "I carry the expectations of my entire family."
LOWER BACK PAIN:
→ "I financially burden too many"
DIGESTIVE PROBLEMS:
→ "I can't digest this injustice/discrimination."
SKIN PROBLEMS:
→ "I am separated from my land/my people".
KNEE PAIN:
→ "I find it hard to move forward, I feel trapped between two worlds."
PAIN IN FEET:
→ "I have nowhere to stand, I lost my roots".
BREATHING PROBLEMS:
→ "I lack freedom, I feel suffocated".
HEART PROBLEMS:
→ "My heart is divided between two countries".
5. HOW THE BODY STORES WHAT THE MIND COULD NOT PROCESS.
"Cellular memory: when each cell remembers the trauma ".
This is where science and spirituality meet.
The Neuroscience of Somatic Trauma
Bessel van der Kolk spent 40 years studying how trauma is stored in the body.
His groundbreaking findings:
"Trauma is not just a memory in the brain. It is encoded in the autonomic nervous system, in posture, in breathing, in chronic muscle tension. " * *"Trauma is not only a memory in the brain.
When you experience trauma (such as migration), your body goes into survival mode:
- Sympathetic nervous system activates (fight/flight) 2.
- If you can't fight or flee (as in migration), freeze.
- That survival energy is trapped in the body 4.
- Years later, it manifests as chronic physical symptom 5.
Epigenetics: how trauma changes your genes ----## Epigenetics: how trauma changes your genes ----##.
Rachel Yehuda, an American neuroscientist, discovered something amazing:
- "Trauma can change the expression of your genes. And those changes can be passed on to your children and grandchildren. " *## **Epigenetics.
She studied children of Holocaust survivors and found:
The children had the same stress patterns as their parents, even though they never experienced the trauma directly.
For migrants, this means: ** For migrants, this means:**
Your child may manifest physical symptoms of the migrant trauma you experienced, even though he/she was born here.
He/she may have:
- Unexplained anxiety
- Digestive problems
- Insomnia
- Chronic pain
**Never having migrated
Because trauma travels through generations.
**Candace Pert's Cellular Memory
Candace Pert discovered:
- "Every cell in your body has receptors for neuropeptides (emotion molecules). Emotions are not just in the brain. They're all over your body. " * *"Every cell in your body has receptors for neuropeptides (emotion molecules).
When you repress an emotion:
- It doesn't go away
- It becomes a molecule
- It is stored in tissues
- Stays there waiting to be released
**That's why you can "carry" pain in your body for decades.

6. REAL CASES: WHEN HEALING THE FAMILY SYSTEM HEALS THE BODY.
Case 1: Maria - Fibromyalgia that disappeared by releasing her mother.
María, 42 years old - Ecuador → Spain
Symptom: Severe fibromyalgia. Pain all over the body. 7 years without relief.
What we discovered in session:** What we discovered in session:
Maria had left her mother alone in Ecuador to migrate.
Her mother constantly told her: *"My whole body hurts since you left.
In the constellation, we saw that Maria was literally carrying her mother's pain in her own body.
Invisible loyalty:** "If I am in pain too, I am not abandoning you, mother. "* ** "If I am in pain too, I am not abandoning you, mother.
The healing movement:** ** "If I also have pain, I don't abandon you, Mom.
We asked him to tell his mother (symbolically):
"Mom, your pain is yours. I can't carry it for you. I love you, but my body is mine. " * "Mom, your pain is mine.
Result:
Within 2 weeks, the pain began to subside.
At 2 months, 80% of the pain had disappeared.
Her doctor was in shock. *In fibromyalgia, it doesn't happen.
Case 2: Roberto - Chronic gastritis that healed by expressing his anger.
Roberto, 38 years old - Venezuela → Miami
Symptom: Severe gastritis. Bleeding. Pain that woke him up at night.
What we found out in session:** ** What we found out in session:** ** What we found out in session:** ** What we found out in session:**
Roberto was "swallowing" an immense rage:
- Anger towards the government that destroyed his country.
- Rage towards his boss who exploited him
- Rage towards himself for "not being able to save everyone".
But he never expressed it. **He swallowed it.
And his stomach was literally "digesting" that anger.
In the session:** **
We gave her permission to scream, to hit cushions, to express pent-up rage.
He cried. She screamed. He shook.
And he said out loud: "This isn't fair! I'm furious!"
Result:
The bleeding stopped within a week.
Pain disappeared in 3 weeks.
She has been symptom free for 2 years.
Case 3: Carmen - Eczema healed by reconciling with her identity.
Carmen, 35 years old - Guatemala → Texas
Symptom: Severe eczema on hands and arms. Unbearable itching. Bleeding.
What we found out in session:** ** What we found out in session:**
The eczema appeared just as Carmen changed her name from "Carmen" to "Carol" to "sound more American".
Her skin was screaming: "I can't touch who I really am. My skin doesn't feel comfortable in this fake identity. " * "I can't touch who I really am.
The healing movement:** **
We guide her to regain her original name.
To honor its roots.
To say: *"I am Carmen. I am Guatemalan. And that is beautiful.
Result:
The eczema started to heal after 3 weeks.
At 2 months, skin completely clear.
And she got her name back: Carmen.

7. HOW A PSYCHOSOMATIC HEALING SESSION WORKS.
"Integrating Biodescodification, Constellations and Ancestral Medicine ".
In my sessions, when you work on a physical symptom, I don't just give you pills or tell you "it's psychological, ignore it".
We work on 4 levels simultaneously:
LEVEL 1: BIOLOGICAL DECODING: LEVEL 2: BIOLOGICAL DECODING: LEVEL 3: BIOLOGICAL DECODING.
We identify:
- When did the symptom begin?
- What emotional conflict was active?
- What biological message does the symptom have?
- What is your body trying to resolve?
LEVEL 2: TRANSGENERATIONAL TRACING LEVEL 2: TRANSGENERATIONAL TRACING
We are looking for:
- Who in your family had something similar?
- What ancestral trauma are you carrying?
- What invisible allegiance is operating?
LEVEL 3: FAMILY CONSTELLATION LEVEL 2: FAMILY CONSTELLATION LEVEL 3: FAMILY CONSTELLATION
We reorganize the system so that:
- Return what you are not entitled to carry
- Release unseen loyalties
- Take the strength of lineage without the pain
LEVEL 4: SOMATIC LIBERATION LEVEL 4: SOMATIC LIBERATION
We help the body to release:
- Contained emotions
- Frozen energy
- Cellular memory
Through:
- Breathing
- Movement
- Vocal expression
- Rituals of liberation
I want you to see exactly how it works: **
Instead of explaining step by step, I want you to see with your own eyes how I work in session:

8. THE BODY LISTENING EXERCISE YOU CAN DO TODAY.
"Your body wants to talk to you. Learn to listen to it. "
This exercise is simple but powerful. Take it seriously.
EXERCISE: DIALOGUE WITH YOUR SYMPTOM.
Time: 20-30 minutes
You need: Paper, pen, quiet space
STEP 1: PREPARATION (5 min)** ** PASS 1: PREPARATION (5 min) **
Sit comfortably.
Take 3 deep breaths.
Bring your attention to the part of your body that hurts or has symptoms.
STEP 2: DIALOGUE (15 min).
Write these questions on your paper and respond from your body (not your mind):
Question 1: "When did you start hurting/manifesting? " (approximate date, age, time of life).
(Approximate date, age, time of life)
Question 2: "What was going on in my life at that time? " (Events, changes, losses, conflicts, conflicts).
(Events, changes, losses, conflicts)
Question 3: *"What emotion am I storing here?
(Anger, sadness, fear, guilt, shame)
Question 4: *"What am I not allowing myself to feel/say/do?
(What am I repressing)
Question 5: *"Who in my family are you similar to?
(Look for transgenerational patterns)
Question 6: * "What do you need from me to heal?
(Listen to the answer without judgment)
STEP 3: HONOR THE MESSAGE (5 min)** ** (5 min)** (5 min)** (5 min)** (5 min)** (5 min)
Read what you wrote.
Place your hand on the part of your body that hurts.
And say to it:
"Thank you for trying to protect me. Thank you for the message. I am ready to listen to you and heal. " * "I am ready to listen to you and heal.
**STEP 4: ACTION
Based on what you discovered, take ONE action in the next 24 hours:
- If you need to express anger → punch cushions, write anger letter and burn it.
- If you need to cry → give yourself permission to cry
- If you need to say something → say it (or write it down).
- If you need to set boundaries → set one
- If you need professional help → schedule a session
9. BEGIN YOUR INTEGRAL HEALING PROCESS
"Your body has been waiting so long to be heard.... don't you think it's time? "
If you've read this far, your body is asking for help.
Physical symptoms are not your enemy.
They are desperate messengers trying to tell you:
"Something in your system needs to heal. "
And when you heal the family system, when you release the pent-up emotions, when you reorganize the invisible loyalties....
**Your body can finally let go.
In our psychosomatic healing sessions, we will work on:** **
✓ Decoding the biological message of your symptom.
✓ Identifying the emotional conflict that triggered it.
✓ Tracking transgenerational patterns
✓ Releasing emotions contained in the body
✓ Reorganizing your family system.
✓ Integrating all levels (mental, emotional, systemic, bodily).
