How Constellations Heal Migratory Trauma
From a Divided Heart to an Integrated Soul
My love, how long have you been feeling split in two?
Half of you longs for your homeland. The other half struggles to adapt. And in between... an ocean of guilt, homesickness and confusion.
*Do I belong here or there, who am I really?
Today I want to show you how family constellations can heal that inner division and transform your migration trauma into integration, wholeness and true rootedness.

1. THE WOUND OF THE DIVIDED HEART
"I can't be happy here without betraying there "
As Bert Hellinger, creator of family constellations, says:
"Only when you honor what you left behind, can you fully take in what is in front of you. " *
Migration trauma is not just nostalgia. It is a fragmentation of the soul that sustains you:
- ❌ Feeling guilty for succeeding (while your family stayed behind).
- ❌ Unable to enjoy your current life (because you feel like you're betraying your past).
- ❌ Passing on to your children a nostalgia that doesn't belong to them.
- ❌ Living in an emotional limbo: neither here, nor there.
Stephan Hausner, German expert in systemic constellations, explains:
- "When the migrant cannot honor both places, he or she is caught between two worlds, unable to take root in either. " * *"When the migrant cannot honor both places, he or she is caught between two worlds, unable to take root in either.

2. STEP 1: HONOR COUNTRY OF ORIGIN.
"I take strength from my roots without being trapped in them ".
The first healing move is deep and painful: look at what you left behind.
a) Acknowledge and be grateful for your roots without judgment.
Many migrants carry anger or shame towards their country of origin:
- "If my country were better, I wouldn't have had to leave " "There are no opportunities over there " *"There are no opportunities over there.
- There are no opportunities there "* * "I am ashamed of where I come from
- "I am ashamed of where I come from " * "I am ashamed of where I come from
But Franz Ruppert, German psychotraumatologist, reminds us:
- "You cannot reject your origin without rejecting yourself. Everything you are was born there. " * *"You can't reject your origin without rejecting yourself.
In a constellation, this movement is expressed in phrases such as:
**💚 "Thank you, my earth, for giving me life. "**💚 "Thank you, my earth, for giving me life. "**💚 "I carry your strength.
**💚 "I carry your strength in my blood. "**💚 "I carry your strength in my blood. "**💚 "I carry your strength in my blood.
**💚 "I honor my ancestors who lived and fought in you. "**💚 "I honor my ancestors who lived and fought in you. "**💚 "I honor you.
b) Release anger for "what he didn't give you ".
It is natural to feel anger toward your country of origin. Perhaps:
- It didn't give you opportunities
- Did not give you security
- Didn't value your talent
- Forced you to leave
But that anger, my love, keeps you bound. Mark Wolynn, author of "It Didn't Start with You ", explains:
- "Resentment toward our origins is an invisible anchor that keeps us from moving forward. " * *"It didn't start with you.
In the constellation, we let go of anger by saying:
**💙 "I give you a place in my heart just the way you are. "**💙 "I don't need you to be different anymore.
**💙 "I no longer need you to be different for me to be happy. "**💙 "Tom.
**💙 "I take what you gave me and I leave what you couldn't give. "**💙
c) Take strength from your ancestors.
Your grandparents survived wars, famines, dictatorships, revolutions. Your parents fought with what they had.
**That strength lives in you.
When you bow to them and say:
💛 "Thank you for life. I will honor it by living it to the fullest. "
Something changes. Weight transforms into strength. Guilt into gratitude.

3. STEP 2: HONOR THE COUNTRY OF DESTINATION.
"I give myself permission to put down roots here without betraying there ".
The second move is just as important: open to your present without guilt.
a) Give yourself permission to adapt and enjoy without guilt.
Have you ever felt bad about:
- Speaking the new language fluently?
- Adopting customs from the host country?
- Feeling more comfortable here than there?
- Your children feeling more from here than from your homeland?
**That guilt is loyal but destructive.
Daan van Kampenhout, Dutch constellator and expert in collective trauma, explains:
- "Misunderstood loyalty makes us believe that we must suffer for those we leave behind. But your suffering does not alleviate theirs. " * Daan van Kampenhout*.
The healing movement is:
**💜 "I take the opportunities that this country gives me with gratitude. "💜 "I take the opportunities this country gives me with gratitude. "
**💜 "I allow myself to be happy without betraying anyone. "💜 "I allow myself to be happy without betraying anyone. "
**💜 "I honor my family by looking good, not by looking bad. "**💜 "I honor my family by looking good, not by looking bad. "**💜 "I honor my family by looking good.
b) Be grateful for opportunities received.
Yes, the road was difficult. Yes, there was discrimination, loneliness, fear.
But there were also doors that opened. Opportunities that did not exist in your homeland.
Anne Ancelin Schützenberger, a French psychoanalyst and pioneer in transgenerationality, reminds us:
*"To honor the present is not to forget the past. It is to allow the past to rest.
Phrases that heal:
❤️ "Thank you, land that welcomed me. " **
❤️ "I recognize that you gave me what my land could not give me.
❤️ "I live fully in honor of those who could not. " **
c) Integrate both cultures without betraying either.
This is the secret: it's not about choosing.
You are "neither from here nor from there".
**You are from BOTH places.
Hunter Beaumont, an American constellator specializing in multicultural trauma, calls it "the living bridge ":
- "The healed migrant becomes a bridge between two worlds, carrying the best of both. "* *.
In the constellation, this movement is physically represented:
- Standing between the two countries (represented by people or symbols).
- Looking at one, then the other
- Taking strength from both sides
- Saying:
**💚 "I carry both in my heart. "**💚 "I am a bridge, not an outcast. "**💚 "I am a bridge.
💚 "I'm a bridge, not an outcast. "
**💚 "My identity is bigger than a single country. "**💚

4. STEP 3: CLOSE THE OPEN DUEL
"I allow myself to mourn what I lost so I can finally let go ".
This is the most profound and liberating move.
a) Acknowledge what you lost and validate the pain.
Joseba Achotegui, a Spanish psychiatrist and expert in migration, identified the 7 losses of migratory grief:
- Family and loved ones 2.
- Mother tongue 3.
- Culture and customs 4.
- Land, landscapes, colors, smells 5.
- Social status (your degrees do not count here)
- Belonging group (your tribe)
- Migration project (what you dreamed of vs. reality)
Most migrants never closed these duels. They put them in a drawer and moved on because "you had to be strong".
But Pauline Boss, an American psychologist and expert on "ambiguous loss", warns us:
- "Unexpressed grief turns into chronic depression, anxiety, or unexplained physical symptoms. " * *"Unexpressed grief turns into chronic depression, anxiety, or unexplained physical symptoms.
The first step is to validate:
**💙 "Yes, I lost a lot. "**💙 "Yes, I lost a lot. "**💙 "Yes, I did.
💙 "It wasn't easy. And it's okay to acknowledge that. "
**💙 "My pain is real and deserves to be honored. "**💙 "My pain is real.
b) Allow yourself to let go of pent-up sadness.
In constellations, this moment is often the most cathartic.
When you finally give yourself permission to:
- Cry for your grandmother who died without ever seeing you again.
- Cry for the years of loneliness
- Regret the childhood your children didn't live near their cousins
- Recognize that part of you died when you left
Franz Ruppert calls it "the healing cry":
- "When we mourn what we really lost, the soul can finally rest. " * "When we mourn what we really lost, the soul can finally rest. "
Phrases that allow us to let go:
💜 "I mourn you, my land, so I can finally let you go. " 💜 "I mourn you, my land, so I can finally let you go. "
**💜 "I honor what I lost and open myself to what I have. "💜 "I honor what I lost and open myself to what I have. "
**💜 "The pain was real, but I don't need to carry it any more. "**💜
c) Free your children from carrying your homesickness.
This move is especially important if you are a mother or father.
Your children are not responsible for keeping your homesickness alive.
They don't have to:
- Speak your language to make you feel less lonely.
- Feel guilty for not missing a country they don't know
- Carry your unresolved sadness
- Reject their current identity to honor your roots
Constança Kolland, a Brazilian migration counselor, explains:
- "When the parent closes their migratory mourning, the children can finally be free to choose their own identity. " * "When the parent closes their migratory mourning, the children can finally be free to choose their own identity. " *
The healing movement is to tell them (really or symbolically):
❤️ "Son/daughter, my homesickness is mine. It is not your burden. "
**❤️ "I give you permission to be here without betraying me.
**❤️ "I heal my story so that you can be free to create your own.
This simple movement can transform generations.

6. REAL TESTIMONIES OF HEALING
Maria's Case: "I stopped feeling like a traitor ".
Maria, 42 years old, migrated from Colombia to the USA 15 years ago.
Every time she achieved something (a promotion, buying a house), she felt deeply guilty.
*My family sacrificed so that I could leave. How can I be happy when they are still struggling?
In her constellation, Maria saw her father and grandfather represented.
Both told her (through the representatives):
"Daughter, we migrated in the soul so that you could migrate in the body. Your happiness is our blessing, not your betrayal. " ** "Daughter, we migrated in soul so that you could migrate in body.
Mary cried for 20 minutes. Then, a deep peace.
6 months later: Maria wrote to me:
"For the first time in 15 years, I can enjoy my life without guilt. Even my children told me, 'Mom, you're different. You're happier.'
I stopped constantly talking to them about Colombia as 'paradise lost'. Now I can honor my roots without being trapped in them. " *I've stopped constantly talking to them about Colombia as 'paradise lost.
José's Case: "My children no longer carry my nostalgia "**
José, 50 years old, Mexican in California.
His children (16 and 14 years old) told him:
"Dad, we're American. Stop trying to make us something we're not. " *"Dad, we're American.
Jose felt deeply hurt.
They are forgetting their roots. They are betraying the family. " * "They are betraying the family.
In his constellation, he saw something that surprised him:
His children were literally carrying their unresolved grief.
When Jose finally cried for his beloved Mexico, when he said:
"My nostalgia is mine. It is not their burden. I free you. " ** "My nostalgia is mine.
Their children (depicted) could finally breathe.
3 months later: Joseph reported:
"My children spontaneously approached Mexican culture. Now they WANT to learn Spanish. But they do it from freedom, not from obligation. " * "My children spontaneously approached Mexican culture.
7. HELLINGERIAN HEALING PHRASES AND MOVEMENTS.
"The words your soul needs to hear ".
In constellations, certain phrases have an immediate healing power. They are like keys that open stuck doors.
To honor your country of origin.
💚 "Thank you, my land, for giving me life. "
💚 "I carry your strength in my blood. "
💚 "I give you a place in my heart just as you are. "
💚 "I take what you gave me and I leave what you couldn't give. "
To open you to the country of destiny.
💙 "I take the opportunities you give me with gratitude. "
💙 "I allow myself to put down roots here without betraying there. "
💙 "Thank you for welcoming me. "
**To close the mourning.
💜 "I mourn you so I can let you go. "
💜 "I honor what I lost and open up to what I have. "
💜 "The pain was real, but I don't need to carry it anymore. "
To set your children free:
❤️ "Child, my longing is mine. It is not your burden. "
❤️ "I give you permission to be from here without betraying me. "
❤️ "I heal my history so that you may be free. "
To honor the ancestors.
💛 "Thank you for life. I will honor it by living it to the fullest. "
💛 "I take her strength and carry her forward. "
💛 "What you could not live, I will live in your honor. " 💛 "What you could not live, I will live in your honor. "
8. HOW TO KNOW IF YOU ARE READY FOR THIS PROCESS.
You are ready if:
✅ You feel like you live "in between two worlds" without belonging to either.
✅ You carry guilt about succeeding while your family stayed behind
✅ Your nostalgia prevents you from enjoying your present
✅ Your children are rejecting your roots or carrying your sadness
✅ You feel like you are betraying someone when you are happy here
✅ You have unexplained physical symptoms (chronic pain, fatigue, insomnia).
✅ You repeat patterns of your migrant parents/grandparents.
✅ You feel that "something" anchors you to the past and you can't move forward
9. START YOUR INTEGRATION PROCESS
"Pain can end with you. Blessing can begin with you. "
My love, family constellations are not magic.
They are a deep process that requires:
- Courage to look at what hurts.
- Humility** to honor what was
- Openness** to receive what is.
But when you do...
Everything changes.
Your heart is no longer divided.
Your soul becomes integrated.
Your children are liberated.
