Family Constellations. Coco and healing with the ancestors.

    coco and family constellations

Last week I had the opportunity to see the movie Coco by Disney Pixar. A beautiful story based on the Day of the Dead celebration in Mexico. Personally, it is a day that I love, not only because of how I have experienced it while I have been there, but because of the worldview of death. Family traditions, offerings to those who have gone, a recognition of those who came before, a journey into the world of the "unseen", with its secrets, tastes, tastelessness and memories. Undoubtedly, an experience worth living!

    But what I'm getting to,

While watching the movie, I cried remembering part of my own walk through those lands and once again I connected with my ancestor healing work and the similarity with Family Constellations. As in the movie (_which if you have not seen, I recommend you to do it), the work with the ancestors is unique for each person and the messages they bring are unique to each soul, to each experience.

In Coco, we see the journey of Miguel, a boy who wants to be a musician, in a family where it is forbidden. His great-great-grandfather plays a fundamental role in the story, because of what music represented in his life and in the family, making him an excluded person that nobody talked about, and of whom there was no photo in the offering. Thus, for two generations, they obeyed and assumed the rules "invisible family agreements" that hid the need for something that wants to come to light, in this case Music.

In the healing work with ancestors from a transpersonal point of view, many of the conflicts that are reflected in the family system are built through the secrets, of those excluded figures, the silences, the deaths, what is "hidden under the carpet" but that sooner or later someone repeats in the system to give it meaning, memory and place.

In the film, Miguel wants to be a musician, without knowing very well where this gift, this instinct, comes from. Like his great-great-grandfather, he will have to fight to defend his dream, but at the same time he finds himself in the dilemma of respecting the family traditions that prohibit music at all costs. To do so, he has to go to the world of the dead, and obtain the blessing of his ancestors.

And although the story of the film, for many sounds like that, a story; the reality is that in the work of healing with ancestors emotional release and balance is achieved when this ancestral blessing appears, when the members are recognized, when one looks at those who came before, when one accepts one's origins.

We must remember that all families establish agreements, some conscious and some unconscious. There are agreements of all kinds linked to family dramas: the way in which it is decided to face situations, to assume life, migrations, fears, diseases, fertility, infertility, abortions, illegitimate children or out of wedlock, dramatic deaths, accidents, disabilities, murders, rapes, incest, wars, economic ruins, transgenerational diseases, lack, the deepest wounds of abandonment, rejection or demands, among others. etc. etc. Agreements that many times are simply followed because it is what has been done all their lives.

It is about exploring the transgenerational intelligence by healing the wounds of the past.

The healing work with ancestors touches the essence, that which moves everyone who looks at it, allowing an understanding of the situation, a release of what is carried unnecessarily or out of love. And from there, strength is taken to advance and build what each one decides..

It is a look into the past,

    a liberation from the present.

and a new path to the future.

Therefore, in the healing work with ancestors, it is key to retake the story, to know where we come from in order to finally free the soul, reconcile and let go of that which no longer belongs to us. This is not something we do alone at home, because being immersed in the dynamics, we remain somehow "obnubilated" accepting and living from a place that is often uncomfortable. To immerse yourself in this work, it is best to do it accompanied by a Therapist / psychologist to guide this inner journey, help you to place and make sense to face your story, helping you to understand the puzzle that is in disorder and often do not have all the pieces; a look from the outside that allows you to rebuild it and lead you to heal with a loving look at what was and what brought you here.

Maybe it is time for you to be "Coco_" and make your own healing journey, to be able to work and solve what is still pending in your family and personal history in order to be what you really want to be.
